The path to the superintendency requires an understanding of sound management practices and solid leadership behaviors. Sustained success in the job reflects the ability to work with individuals and diverse groups who may have competing or conflicting agendas. The day-to-day demands of the position compete with personal and family needs for time and attention as superintendents strive for harmony and balance in their lives. Seminar I includes activities that focus on the importance of effective communication and the value of developing and maintaining positive relationships. Institute Fellows will begin to frame the elements included in a model entry plan and begin drafting a 90-day plan for a successful transition. Several activities will help participants examine the requirements that pave the superintendent's career path. This seminar focuses on the following topics: - The Toughest Job You Will Ever Love - Building and Nurturing Relationships - The Dynamics of Superintendent and School Board Relationships Time will be allotted to discuss the process for coaching and the organization of the reflective journal. Fellows will share reflections based on session discussions and activities.
