Regional navies want to upgrade existing and procure new submarines to enhance combat capabilities, primarily anti submarine warfare (ASW), and to meet intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance requirements. There are a number of threat factors driving the decision to procure submarines. Although conventional warfare remains the primary concern for navies, asymmetric warfare like terrorism, maritime piracy, mines and explosives in the littorals have played an equal part in heightening the threat level. Underwater Battlespace APAC will discuss these very issues, bringing together heads and project leads of specific submarine projects as well as senior decision makers.
