Psychological Trauma - Event details   12/12/2008 - 12/13/2008 FAIRMONT COPLEY PLAZA HOTEL, Boston, USA  (Massachusetts)   Description This conference will address state-of-the-art evidence-based, step-by-step phase-oriented treatment for simple PTSD, complex trauma, and trauma-related disorders with co-occurring substance abuse or eating disorders. Simple PTSD fits the DSM-IV-TR diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic stress disorder. Complex PTSD entails symptoms cutting across a variety of DSM diagnoses, including posttraumatic, dissociative, somato-form, and personality disorders, and typically includes attachment pathology, self-regulatory deficits, and affect dysregulation. Outcomes evidence firmly establishes that cognitive-behavioral exposure-based treatments work well for simple PTSD, but less so for complex PTSD. Recent skill-based treatment manuals specifically addressing attachment regulation as well as affect regulatory and self-regulatory skills work well for complex trauma and trauma co-occurring with addictions. OBJECTIVE The objectives of this conference are: - familiarize participants with the best evidence-based step-by-step treatment manuals for simple and complex PTSD, such as Foa's exposure-based cognitive-behavioral treatment of simple PTSD, Ford's TARGET model and Cloitre's STAIR model for treatment of complex trauma; van der Linden's 10-step model for treating eating disorders co-occurring with trauma; and Cloitre's and Brown's attachment-based models for complex trauma.
