Description

As Australia invests more than ever into infrastructure, underground and above surface cables and pipes are either being hit or have to be moved due to wide-spread construction. However, the records maintained for pipes and cables by the utility companies are often incomplete and inaccurate. Utilities companies therefore have to pick up the pace and produce more cost effective and efficient measures to find and manage their assets.
“Just by mapping our facilities in the first place we identified $500 million worth of assets that we didn’t know we had, or at least hadn’t got properly recorded. By putting those assets into the system it meant we could get a return on capital revenue streams of $21 million a year.” - Tom Williams, Network Strategic Data Manager, ENERGEX AFR, 15 July 2008
