Legacy voice and data services are no longer sufficient to meet the increasingly sophisticated demands of customers, nor are they able to compete with new applications from alternative service providers. As convergence takes hold of the telecoms industry, operators are forced to evolve Next Generation business models in order to remain competitive and profitable. Transitioning towards a Next Generation business model warrants careful planning. Operators will need to decide where to position themselves in the emerging value chain in order to secure new revenue streams from new customer segments. And once the business model has been decided, they will have to choose strategic partners, reengineer processes, adapt the internal organisation, identify profitable services and ensure that the evolving network infrastructure can support their deployment.
